  3.                                  Zone.  Eventually, he and 
  4.                                  his mother moved to New 
  5.                                  York City. At age 18, one 
  6. day after graduating from high school in 1964, 
  7. he signed with the Minnesota Twins.

  9. After three years in the minors, Rod made it 
  10. to the big club in 1967. He batted .292 and
  11. was named the American League Rookie of
  12. the Year. Two seasons later, he led the
  13. league with a .332 batting average. That was
  14. the first of 15 straight years in which he
  15. batted .300 or more!

  17. In 1977, his best season, Rod batted .388 
  18. -- more than 50 points higher than
